How To Attach Window Box To Railing
How-do-you-do everyone. I merely finished my own balcony project a few months ago. I ran into the same problems I've read virtually here. My iron balcony runway was just about an inch wide making it very hard to find the best planter boxes for it. And, some of those brackets are very very pricey. Especially if like me, you take a 25-pes long balustrade. What I wound upwardly doing was constructing a "frame" with 2x4's. I placed the forest (vertically) against each of the iron posts. I zip tied each slice of wood to each postal service to secure it in place. I zip tied on the top and lesser using an industrial type of naught necktie.
Next, I placed more than 2x4'south on top and nailed that onto the 2x4'due south I aligned to each iron post. I alternated the nailing of the top wood and so that the woods on top would exist nailed into at least two posts, securing it even more.
I now have a ledge the width of the 2x4 which is basically a deck rail, where I can hang my planter boxes off of. The brackets for the width of a deck track are much cheaper and readily bachelor. I found some at lowe'southward.
I think I tin illustrate this much better with photos so, I just snapped a few for you to meet. Y'all will need a few basic tools. I used a drill, hammer, and a screwdriver mostly. Of form, your measurement should be as precise equally possible. I painted the wood to friction match the atomic number 26 railing after I weatherproofed it with a gray colored pigment. I hope this makes sense.
As you lot can run into, I take the wooden posts secured to the existing iron posts. You don't demand a mail for every single one. I measured the length of the balcony and placed wooden posts evenly beyond the length.
Here is a close up of the 2x4 that I secured to the iron rail using heavy duty zip ties top and bottom. You can come across the nail marks hammered into the 2x4 behind information technology. When y'all nail in the top part, what I call as "the ledge," information technology volition serve to secure your vertical wooden posts even more. And of grade, any weight from your planter boxes makes it more than secure.
The role of the brackets that hang inside the balcony I covered upward by ownership some cheap decorative trim and but nailing it onto the side. There was a gap between the subclass and the trim making it difficult to nail flat. So, I got some of those free wooden paint sticks to wedge in between and nailed it in that way.
The beauty of this is, when and if you have to re-locate, the entire frame tin can be easily disassembled. No permanent change or any damage to the existing balustrade, which your landlord or tenant board would no doubt appreciate.
If you're wondering, the unabridged projection toll about $120.00 and took the entire weekend to complete. Most of that time was waiting for the weatherproofing and the paint to dry. - Thanks for letting me become my 2cents in! -NJC-
